For many months I went to meetings, didn't have a sponsor, and didn't drink or use pills. Then I stopped the meetings because of my studies in college. The other night I almost used. I told on my disease in one of the other groups on Facebook and got lots of help & emergency support and did not use. It was suggested to go back to meetings , get a sponsor and do the steps. That is what I have started to do. A.T.
meetings are the best place to meet people who want to recover, that I have found. My favorite service commitment is detox, but no one EVER calls from there, so consistently showing up at meetings, consistently sharing the same message, consistently going up to newcomers, is the best way I have found do TRY to help alcoholics... and when I do that consistently - I feel the God's spirit flow into me and straighten out mind in addition to prayer and meditation and sponsorship, as being helpful in my community in other ways... so the purpose of meetings is to help drunks, not get something AJ W.

from my experience the alcoholics that work the steps , and work with many alcoholics have a better and sober life

Going to meetings only without working the steps is untreated alcoholism.
